The Dance

The Dance by Garth Brooks
Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared ‘neath the stars alone
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you’d ever say goodbye
And now I’m glad I didn’t know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I’d of had to miss the dance
Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn’t I a king
But if I’d only known how the king would fall
Hey who’s to say you know I might have chanced it all
And now I’m glad I didn’t know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I’d of had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
but I’d of had to miss the dance

One year….We miss you Grandpa

George L. S., Jr. died at home August 30th, 2007, surrounded by his family, from complications related to mesothelioma cancer. He was 79. Born and raised in La Puente, Los Angeles, CA, George owned and operated Butts & Smith’s service station in Hamilton City and Monterey Park, CA for over 20 years. Later, George was the parks supervisor for the City of West Covina, CA until his retirement in 1990 where he lived in Hemet, CA until his move to Port Orchard, WA. George had a passion for playing and watching golf, enjoyed computers, traveling, being with his family, and loved his recently restored 1969 Mustang. George was a member of the Kitsap Mustangs, International Order of Foresters, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks.

He is survived by his long time friend, constant companion and wife Margaret; his son Roger S and wife Mary, their children Tiffany S, and Anastasia S; Margarets’ two daughters Darylla Jean L. and husband Rick; Naomi P. and husband Rob; nine grand children, Jennifer K. and husband Darren, Daryl, Julie, Angie, Barbara Jean and husband Marc, Ashley, P.J., Crystal, and R.J; five great grand children; and his only surviving brother Jack S. and wife Mildred.

His love and support for his family shall be dearly missed.

————————————————————————————————
Grandpa,
One year ago tomorrow, we surrounded you our hearts breaking as we watched you leave this earth. I know that you are in a better place now. I know that you can breathe easy, golf without pain, and can watch over us. This has been a hard year without you Grandpa.
The entire family misses you. We think of you daily. We talk about the good times, the funny times, and occassionally the sad times. You were an amazing man. You have left a legacy in us that will never be forgotten.
On this day Grandpa, the day you grew your wings, I want to pause to think of you and all that you did for our family.
Thank you for the greatness, thank you for you strength, and thank you for watching over us all and keeping us safe.
We love you.

The Dark Knight!

This week I had the pleasure of going to see this movie at the Drive Inn! Great movie, good food, and wonderful company! It truly made it a perfect atmosphere to appreciate Mr.Ledgers tragic last role.
For those that have not seen the movie, I will not give details. But fo those that have seen it…..I dont know about you, but I couldnt even tell it was Heath. Not at all what I expected from this movie, and now I cant wait to see another Batman film!

RN orientation

Wow, what a day….

RN orientation was yesterday, and I just couldn’t believe that it is getting ready to start. The ticker says that I have just over 3 weeks left.

I have almost all of my books. Just waiting for the last couple to show up and I will be ready. The laptop is all clean and neat. All my supplies are ready!

My mood has dramatically improved as school is getting ready to start. It was so invigorating to be surrounded by other students who are working towards the same goal.

School is starting, “oh my gawd” school is starting!

T is for Typheni

The story of Typheni, as best as I can remember:

When I was in Japan, there were two Tiffany S’s in my class, therefore things were very challenging. The teacher encouraged us to each pick a nickname that could be used to identify us from each other. After talking it over with family, we decided to spell my name TYPHENI instead. This was supposed to stick purely for that class.

When we moved back to the US, I encountered the same problem, only there were 3 of us. So I reverted back to the state of Typheni-ness. Somewhere in here, I had an English teacher who decided to pronounce TYPHENI just as it looks “Tie- Fa-knee”(with lots of attitude). It caught on like wild fire, and from then on I was called Typheni (with unique pronunciation) by everyone.

I kept up with the name all throughout highschoo, and even toyed with the idea of having my name legally changed. Many of my friends (most) had no clue that my name was in fact Tiffany. When I graduated high school I had to go to administration and explain that my legal name was in fact Tiffany, as they had printed a diploma for Typheni.

Are you all still with me?
After high school I went to work on the navy base and was forced to use my legal name for the first time in four years. There were many conversations that would go like this:
Person: “Hey Tiffany”
Me: Blank stare
Person: “Tiffany?”
Me: Blank stare
Person: “Hellooooo earth to Tiffany”
Me: “shit that’s my name!”
It was very confusing to everyone, especially my friends from school. They would come by to see me at work, knowing that I was there, only to hear “we have no one employed by that name”.
So over the years, the Typheni phase died out. I learned to love my “real” name, and everyone has since adapted to the fact that although I used to be a Typheni, now Im just a Tiffany with attitude!

O is for Omigoodness

Or Oh My Goodness….its hot outside!

It seems like just yesterday I was writing about the snow, and now it is hot and humid outside. Sadly with working nights Im not getting to enjoy as much of it as I want.

I went to the local farmers market the other day, and saw some of the most beautiful flowers. I guess all the rain last spring really gave the flowers what they needed.

It is so hot (for us) that my work even sent out an email warning of the dangers of heat stroke. Seriously, its only in the 80′s. Wimpy Washingtonians!

N is for Nursing

Come on….you knew that N would be something to do with nursing, didnt you?

What a good time to talk about what I want out of my nursing career. I have spent many years bouncing around to the different departments of medicine, and working back office in them. That has given me the chance to explore my areas of interest.

I dont particularly care for primary care. I understand the importance of it, but it is incredibly mundane.

I loved OB/GYN, and could see working there or Labor and Delivery. The birthing process from conception through delivery is amazing.

I love the ER. I cant get enough of it. (maybe that will change) I love the shifts, I love working nights, I love the comraderie, and even the action! I just love the ER.

So basically… first choice ER, second choice L&D, third choice Urgent Care.

Can you tell that I’m excited?

M is for Meyah

Meyah is my oldest baby. She will be 6 years old this fall. Time has sure flown by with her. It seems like just yesterday I was afraid to touch her because she was so small, and now she is this chunky monster of a dog.

Weighing in at a whopping 8lbs, her favorite things are lap sitting, being snuggled, going bye-bye, and sleeping under the covers. Her least favorite things are….being pestered by other dogs, and small children.

I thank my stars for this wonderful companion. She is loyal and loving, and oh so unique!

L is for Love, the ethical question

After the past few weeks of life changing turmoil, I am trying to dig my way back up to the surface. One of the biggest questions that continues to boggle me is the question of love. Does love really exist? Is love really “enough”?

Somedays I take the stance of “Love is Blind” and probably stupid too. I wonder if this is where things go wrong. I have love all around me, my parents and family love me. I can feel and see their love. My dogs love me, I can definitly see their love and affection. But what about the love of a spouse or significant other? Should their love always be able to be seen and felt?

I can think of many many times where I felt loved by my husband. And there are many times where I can remember feeling nothing. Is that typical? Is that where the failure happened?

I read, see, hear, and watch other couples express thier affection to each other, and I wonder when that stopped in my marriage. Was it visible to the outsiders?

I wonder if and when I will be able to trust the love of a partner again. I do crave that feeling. Its hard to be without that companionship after having it for so long.

The papers have been filed. Everything should be finalized in November. I dont know how to feel about that.

Im getting divorced, that thought is still pretty haunting.
