Stress and adaptation

In the begining of this quarter we had to write a paper about stress and adaptation on our older adults (from clinical). Surprisingly, or not, my older adult didnt have any major stressors. Now that I reflect on this project I think that it would have been more valuable to write it on ourselves.

I read my post from yesterday, and I am sounding bitter. I dont want to be bitter about school, I dont want to turn into my ex. I am so proud that I got into the nursing program. I feel so accomplished that I have made it this far. This program is tough, but I have made so many good friends. I have met so many amazing women and men who have been so supportive through everything that it makes it worth it.

Finals are challenging, studying is hard, but I want to make the best of this. I want to enjoy this time. I want to remember it fondly. And most of all, I dont want to be Him.

What to say when they ask?

Im at a loss for what to say when people ask me if I love being in the nursing program. Do i love it? No. Do I love the idea of being a nurse? Yes.

I am sitting here trying to study for my final exam on assessment and i keep finding things that the instructor didnt go over but left as our responsibility. For example, she chose not to demonstrate how to do a ROM exam. She said to read the book and it was self explanatory, BULL FUCKING SHIT! Ok, so Im a little upset at her consistent lack of instruction.

This professor has also refused to give us information about examinations and will usually reply, “look in the book”. Well for fucks sake, if I could get my nursing degree just by reading a text book, then why cant I do this crap online!

I understand the importance of assessment, I really do….but how am I supposed to learn this crap if there is no one teaching it? And what the hell is my tuition paying for if not to be taught? Is anyone else experiencing this type of problem? This is kicking my ass.

Monday is my final for Assessment, and its all downhill from there. So please pardon the foul language until Tuesday.

Happy 6th Birthday Meyah

Today is the day that my oldest baby was born. I remember waiting to hear about her litter being born, and I remember going and seeing her when she was so small.

And now here she is…my chunky little sausage of a puppy. She has been through so much in her short years. She survived three chocolate incidents, a run in with the boric acid, 5 puppies (not hers), moving from my parents home to my exes apartment, then to our (my exes and my) house, and then the divorce and moving back to my parents. She has handled it all.

Mama Meyah you are the best. I love you so much. Thank you for being my constant companion through all the crap. Thank you for always choosing me over anyone else. Your joker smile lights up my world.

Happy Birthday baby.

“Careful, dont spill your potatoes on my text book.”
“Im so glad I dont have school today so I can get some studying done.”

Life as a student……ex-citing!

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I hope that everyone gets a chance to relax and unwind. I on the other hand will spend the day studying, and writing papers.

I am thankful for so many things and I wrote about it recently, but today I want to be specifically thankful for all the men and women who are separated from their families and who are celebrating their thanksgivings alone.

I am thankful for you and your service to our great country. Thank you for our freedom and for fighting to keep our freedom.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Hug and kiss your loved ones.

Empty bed syndrome

Hobby left last night. He should be in Cali sometime today. Im so glad that he is making good time!

Its a short week this week because of the holidays, so school has been extra strenuous. Im working on a project about communication in China, and none of my group is participating. Hopefully we can get this squared away today.

Next week is the last week of lectures, and Monday is my final evaluation for Assessment. Anyone have a good way to remember the cranial nerves?

Hell week

I got the results of my tests from last week, and also from today, I did really really well! OMG I cant believe this is almost over!

I finally found out where my Clinical site is going to be. I have 14 hours of clinical per week at the worlds worst place (Ok thats an exaggeration) I still dont know who the clinical professor is going to be, but I suppose knowing when and where is atleast a little comforting.

Hobby leaves tonight. Please send positive vibes. He is one of the brave.

Tintints Thursday

Per Mom-in-scrubs, tintints Thursday!

Thing I never thought I’d need to say:

“Here, you hold the penis while I attach the vagina”

The back story, our manequin at school has uh…removable parts, so you can interchange them to be either male or female. I needed it to be female…’Nuff said!

FOr my Nursing readers…..

If you wouldnt mind sharing the state you went/go to school?

If you have a BSN or ADN (or are working towards)?

Your biggest hurdle in school?

Year you graduated/will graduate?

My stats:
I go to school in Washington state.
I am working towards my ADN.
I have professors who dont have a clue how to teach, and I get the impression that some of them are “burn out” nurses.
I will graduate in 2010.

Thanks guys/gals!

Going through the big D, and dont mean Dallas!

Today is D day, as in Divorce day. He should be heading to the hearing to finalize everything. I am at a loss for words today.

Who knew what started with “I do” would end with “get out”.

I am happier. School has made that so, Family has made that so, And Hobby has made that so.

I will post when I hear for sure that its over.

Keep your finger crossed.

Disorganization

Things you dont want to hear from a professor:

“Im new, so I dont really know the answer to that.”

“I’ll get back to you” (when the question relates to something that is due the next day)

“Ive changed the project” (when the project is due the next day)

“You need to give her some sympathy, she is a new professor”

Is it just me, or would these statements piss you off?

Week 9 with two more to go

I cannot believe that I am almost done with my first term! Finals are knocking on the door, and the final projects are breathing down my neck.

This week I have a bit of a lull. No exciting clinicals just continuing my home visits with my older adult and my child. This week brings musculoskeletal exams on both of them! This should be fun! I should also be able to finish my NAT this week. I still need to develop a RN DX for each of my home clinicals, and I am seriously thinking that “Risk for” is going to be the trend!

I only have 10 more papers to write this quarter! Can you believe it? Ive killed at least half a forest writing all these clinical observation papers. I have two exams this week, one for my clinical lab class, and one in Nursing Foundations. I’m stressing over the latter.

Next week brings my school observation and lots of fun documentation for that!

Two more weeks to go…..two more weeks!

What are you Thankful for?

Today in preparation for the upcoming holidays my family did a run through of Thanksgiving. Hobby unfortunetly will not be joining us for this holiday season, so we wanted to leave him with a feeling of family and warmth.

What a nice night it turned out to be. The ham was nicely cooked and delicious to eat, the mashed taters were delicious, the sweet potatoes were made to perfection, and of course all the other trimmings were in place too. I was unfortunetly to wrapped up in playing with the family and eating to take pictures. But let me tell you….it was a beautiful sight!

This event made me realize that it is once again time for the holidays, and how different they will be this year. I wanted to take a minute to mention the things I am thankful for, and hopefully you will add some too.

This year I am thankful for:

1) My family for all the support that they have given me through this very huge life change.
2) My friends, for helping me to laugh at all the good, cry at the bad, and swear at those that have pissed me off.
3) My dogs, for being a constant companion and comfort to me
4) School, for being a fabulous distraction and such a surprise.
5) My new friendships, both from school and personal life for helping me to build a new life.
6) Hobby, for helping me feel part of a “we” and for being happy with me just the way I am.

What are you thankful for?
