The first baby picture

Dont be embarassed if you cant see it, I had to be educated and now I see a bubble.

Last night I had some unusual bleed and cramping and was worried that something was wrong, so off to the ER we went. I am fully aware that there would be nothing that they could do if there was something wrong, but I needed to know one way or the other.

I got to the ER and was fully prepared for a long wait, but things went smoothly. After blood work and an ultrasound they sent me home as “Threatened Miscarriage”. My Hcg was 11,451. The ultrasound did show a little blood in my uterus, so I am hoping that it is nothing to be worried about.

The tech was phenomenal! She was able to visualize the gestational sac and a yolk sac. She did not see a fetal pole or heartbeat but said that it may just be a couple days early.

All in all, its just a wait and see game. Grow baby Grow. I have a follow up ultrasound (my original ultrasound) is on Wednesday. So hopefully we will have a heart beat then and my chances of this babies survival will go from 50-50 to 70-90% chance.

When was your first ultrasound? And what did you see?

Glad they treated you well and took you seriously in the ER. That’s usually the biggest complaint I have with ERs — they usually want to just load you up on pain killers and then send you home without having addressed the actual problem (in my case, migraines, but after delivering the twins, they’re almost nonexistant).

I had an ultrasound on 1st pregnancy at what my dates said were 9 weeks even. It was a surprise pregnancy so I had no reason to suspect twins or have betas drawn. When the OB couldn’t find heartbeat in either sac and both sacs small, she sent me to the hospital for higher level u/s and they couldn’t visualize fetal poles or heartbeats so they claimed my dates were off (which weren’t in the end). I went back 2 weeks later and one twin was reabsorbed and the other still had no heartbeat. Then miscarried the second twin within the next two weeks. When they checked my hCG level after not finding a heartbeat it was right around 16000 and climbed (not doubled) to about 20k before starting to fall completely.

With A&R, I refused an u/s til I was 8 weeks so I wouldn’t further stress myself out. Then I had them every 4 weeks up through 28 weeks then every 2 weeks til I delivered.

Hope that helps. Try to rest and take it easy the next few days.

With this current pregnancy I had my first u/s at 5 wks, 5 days, I think? They were able to see a flicker on screen which tech said was h/b. Now, this was a VERY high-tech u/s place, and I had 5 more u/s there by 12 weeks (at 6 wks, 3 days; 8 weeks; 10 wks, 3 days; and 12 weeks – final one being the NT Scan).

My OB practice sent me there because: (A) they don’t have an u/s machine; (B) my three prior m/c; (C) allay my anxieties; (D) I was having bleeding and cramping and u/s showed a good sized sub-chorionic [sp?] hematoma (in uterus but unconnected to baby) that they wanted to monitor. The hematoma wound up being reabsorbed completely, and by my 18 wks, 4 day u/s (fetal anatomy scan) it was gone completely!

I am so pleased to hear that you listened to your gut and that you were taken seriously.

If you haven’t already, give some thought to what I previously commented about pre-natal vitamins and their iron levels causing EXTREME pain and cramping in some women – once I got switched to a FL.inestone’s vitamin with extra folic acid tablets, it went away in less than 2 days and I never had that pain again.

Keeping you and baby in my prayers!!!

The same thing happened to me with both pregnancies. I had bleeding around 5 or 6 weeks so I ran to the ER frightened to death. It’s an awful feeling. I believe that I didn’t see a heartbeat either times that early, either. My 1st pregnancy was lost at 20 weeks due to an incompetent cervix. I did bleed more times with each pg after the initial bleeding incident early on. I do not believe that the early bleeding had anything to do with my pre-term labor; I was told that some people just bleed. My second pregnancy I had a cerclage places around 12 weeks and my beautiful daughter is now 17 months old. Like I mentioned, I bled with her, too.

I know it’s scary; I’ve been there. Good luck Wed and keep us posted :)
